The Entity Map can show distribution arrows that track money flowing from your structures (trusts, SMSFs, companies) to people and other structures. Turn it on with the Show distributions toggle in the toolbar.
What an arrow means
Each arrow represents the total of one or more distribution events from a source structure to a recipient, grouped by:
- Stream —
mixed(everything),cash,franked dividends,unfranked income,CGT gains,Division 7A loan, orUPE(unpaid present entitlement). The stream sets the arrow’s colour. - Kind —
planned(forward-looking, dashed) oractual(recorded, solid).
Arrow width scales with the dollar amount, and a tooltip on hover shows a one-line summary (total, kind, number of underlying rows, date range).
Picking a year
The chip next to the toggle controls scope:
- A specific FY (e.g. FY 2025-26) — arrows reflect just that year.
- All years (last 5) — combines the most recent five financial years. Click any arrow to see a per-FY breakdown in the drawer.
Recording a distribution
- Right-click the source structure (a trust / SMSF / company / partnership card on the canvas).
- Choose Record distribution.
- Fill in the recipient, tax year, kind (planned / actual), stream, event date, and at least one income component.
- Click Record.
The form saves through Rask’s existing audit-logged endpoints — every recorded distribution shows up in your activity log and in the canvas overlay on the next refresh.
Editing or archiving
Click any arrow to open the drawer. The Underlying rows section lists the individual flows behind that arrow with Edit and Archive buttons:
- Planned rows can be edited until their parent year-plan is locked. Once locked, the form opens in read-only mode with a banner explaining why.
- Actual rows are append-only per ATO recordkeeping rules. To correct an actual row, record a new corrective row instead.
- Archive soft-deletes the row (it’s hidden from the canvas but the database record is kept for compliance).
What you’ll see when you open the canvas
| Mode | Behaviour |
|---|---|
| Toggle off | No arrows. Other canvas behaviour unchanged. |
| Toggle on, single FY | One arrow per (source → recipient → stream → kind) tuple for the selected FY. Click an arrow → drawer with the income-component breakdown. |
| Toggle on, all years | Same arrows, but the drawer adds a Per-year breakdown section showing how much flowed in each of the last five FYs. |
Time-travel mode (asAt set) | Arrows are filtered to only flows recorded on or before the chosen date. Edit / archive controls hide. |
Privacy
Distribution rows include cents-level amounts. They’re treated with the same sensitivity as any other wealth data in Rask — only you and people you’ve explicitly shared with can see them. Tax file numbers never appear on the canvas.
When to use it
- Planning the upcoming FY’s trust distributions. Add planned rows; the forecaster picks them up and shows the per-recipient tax outcome.
- Recording what you actually paid. Add actual rows after the distribution is made so your tax forecast and actuals reconcile.
- Spotting Division 7A risk. Loan flows render in red — a visual cue to confirm a written loan agreement and minimum repayments.
If you don’t have any structures yet, add them first via Add entity or via Fact Find. Distribution arrows appear once at least one structure has flow rows recorded for the selected year.
