Ready to connect your bank accounts? Cashflow setup has six steps to get your money story up to date in minutes.

Until setup is finished, opening Cashflow brings you here first. You can do the steps in any order, and each one opens in place. If you’d rather explore first, choose Skip to dashboard. The dashboard’s alert banner will remind you to continue setup later.

Before you start

  • Have your online banking login details ready, or a recent bank statement saved as a CSV file.
  • Decide which accounts you want to track (for example, everyday spending, savings and credit cards).

The six setup steps

Connect bank feeds

We use secure, read-only Open Banking connections to link your accounts.

  • Choose Connect bank feeds and pick your bank.
  • You’ll be taken to a secure portal to give permission.
  • Rask never sees your banking login and can’t move your money.

Uploading a CSV statement instead

If your bank isn’t supported, or you’d rather not connect a feed, you can upload a CSV bank statement (up to 5 MB).

  1. Choose your CSV file.
  2. Tell Rask which columns hold the date, the description and the amount. If your statement has separate debit and credit columns, choose those instead. Rask guesses these from the column names, so you usually only need to check them.
  3. Pick the date format your bank uses (for example, DD/MM/YYYY) and, if you like, name the account.
  4. Check the preview, then choose Import.

If you upload the same statement twice, Rask skips transactions it has already imported.

Run first sync

Once connected, Rask pulls in your transaction history.

  • Choose Sync now to import up to 12 months of transactions.
  • This can take a minute or two, depending on how much data there is.

Create a starter rule

Rules help Rask categorise your spending automatically.

  • Choose a common merchant (like Coles or Woolworths).
  • Pick the right category (for example, Groceries).
  • Rask applies the rule to future transactions from that merchant.

Create a starter budget

A budget gives your money a purpose.

  • Pick one category you want to watch closely (for example, Dining out).
  • Set a monthly dollar target.
  • You can add more budgets later from the Budgets tab.

Detect recurring

Rask can find your regular bills and income.

  • Choose Detect recurring to scan your history.
  • This helps you see upcoming commitments and avoid subscription creep.

Review uncategorised

The last step is tidying up.

  • Review any transactions Rask couldn’t categorise.
  • Giving these a category keeps your charts and insights accurate.

Troubleshooting

  • Bank not listed: We support most major Australian banks. If yours isn’t there, upload a CSV statement instead.
  • CSV rows didn’t import: Check the date format and the amount columns in the mapping step. The preview shows how many rows couldn’t be read.
  • Sync errors: If a sync fails, wait five minutes and try again. Bank connections sometimes have short outages.
  • Managing accounts: You can view your connected accounts and attribute them to a trust, company or SMSF in Settings → Connections, under Cashflow data.
